Minister of Economic Affairs, SMEs, Energy and Tourism Lex Delles has responded to a parliamentary enquiry by MP Joëlle Welfring on the possible construction of a data centre (DPC) in Bissen.
The project has not been approved at this time as the environmental assessment has not yet been finalised. The final environmental impact assessment report will be provided after a thorough analysis of all factors, including energy consumption, cooling and possible use of excess heat.
The Minister confirmed that all environmental regulations will be complied with. The assessment includes issues that were previously discussed in the document dated 6 January 2021, published on emwelt.lu.
In addition, the Government has already provided information on the potential to recover heat generated by data centres in a response to another parliamentary enquiry dated 3 February 2025.
The project will only be considered once the environmental impact assessment has been finalised and, if it passes, it must comply with all Luxembourg legal requirements.
The construction of the data centre remains an open question, but the government promises to consider all environmental risks before its possible implementation.
