The Luxembourg Administration of Bridges and Roads (Administration des ponts et chaussées) has announced the launch of a major campaign to panorama all national motorway and cycle routes. The project is being implemented by the German company Cyclomedia Deutschland GmbH, whose seven vehicles, equipped with 360° cameras and LiDAR, have already started travelling around the country and will operate until the end of 2025.
Infrastructure filming has several purposes:
- Updating data on the condition of roads and cycle paths;
- Optimisation of repair and maintenance scheduling, without the need for constant field visits;
- Reducing the ecological footprint of government agencies through remote visualisation.
This means that officers will be able to analyse roads, pavements and traffic signs remotely, reducing unnecessary travel and costs.
The images will be used exclusively for professional purposes by public services. Cyclomedia emphasises compliance with legislation on the protection of personal data:
- All licence plates and faces will be automatically blurred to make identification impossible;
- The photos will not be published in the public domain.
The survey is scheduled to end in December 2025, but the timing may be adjusted depending on weather conditions and technical readiness of transport.
