Luxembourg's Minister of Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, visited Luxembourg Airport to personally inspect the CX300, an experimental all-electric aircraft from Beta Technologies, which made a stopover as part of its European tour.

The CX300 is a lightweight fixed wing regional jet designed for 5 passengers or 500kg of cargo. It generates 75 per cent fewer emissions than the traditional turboprop Cessna 208 Caravan and features significantly lower noise levels, making it particularly suitable for short-haul flights and densely populated regions.

During the meeting with Beta Technologies, they discussed not only the capabilities of the aircraft itself, but also the challenges facing the introduction of electric aviation:

  • Charging infrastructure development,
  • ground handling logistics,
  • integration into the existing airport network,
  • standardisation of service and certification.

Minister Backes stressed that the visit of the CX300 represents a symbolic step forward in the decarbonisation of air transport, especially at the regional level. "Innovations in electric aviation offer real prospects for greener air transport," she said.

Luxembourg's location in the centre of Europe, active aviation industry and government support for sustainable technologies make it an ideal platform for testing and implementing clean aviation. The authorities emphasise that they will continue to invest in green infrastructure and actively cooperate with international technology partners.

The electrification of aviation is one of the most ambitious ways to reduce the carbon footprint of transport. While road transport is already moving towards a mass transition to batteries, aviation is just beginning the journey - and the CX300 represents one of the first practical solutions that can go beyond the test sites.
