On 1 February 2025, the lock at Mosel-Schleuse Müden was fully operational after successful final tests. This event restores the normal operation of water transport on the Mosel, which is crucial for the economy, trade and supply of the region.

The Minister of Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, said that the opening of the lock a month ahead of schedule was possible thanks to excellent coordination and teamwork between all parties. The Luxembourg government has been in close contact with the German Ministry of Digital and Transport, as well as representatives of the logistics and economic communities, since the beginning of the crisis to minimise the impact of the disruption to shipping.

Emergency support measures included the temporary lifting of truck bans to help maintain supply chains and prevent shortages of goods.

The Minister underlined the strategic importance of the Moselle as a transport corridor and confirmed that Luxembourg will continue to work on strengthening the sustainability of transport infrastructure. The authorities are committed to ensuring the smooth flow of goods and passengers in the long term.
