Luxembourg's national railway company CFL has warned passengers of serious disruptions to cross-border train services due to a nationwide strike in Belgium. The protest will begin on Sunday, 25 January, at 10 p.m. and will continue until 10 p.m. on Friday, 30 January, effectively covering the entire working week.
According to CFL, three lines will be directly affected by the stoppage or restrictions on Belgian rail services. These are the connections between Luxembourg and northern Belgium via Ettelbruck, Troisvierges and Gouvy, the Luxembourg–Kleinbettingen (Kleinbettingen) – Arlon, and the line via Bascharage, Sanem, Rodange to Athus. These routes are heavily used by both daily commuters and cross-border workers.
CFL emphasises that from Sunday evening onwards, passengers should be prepared for delays, cancellations or situations where trains will only run to the Luxembourg border and will not continue through Belgium. The extent of the disruption will depend on the actual participation of Belgian railway workers in the strike and on the minimum level of service that operators in the neighbouring country will be able to provide.
