Orchard Month begins in Mullerthal

Mullerthal is not only one of the most beautiful and charming regions of the Grand Duchy but also one of the most fruitful. Every year, the harvest season is celebrated here with the Mount Vum Bongert project — Orchard Month — which will take place from September 15 to October 15.

Orchards are not only part of Luxembourg's natural landscape. They are also an essential feature of the country's cultural heritage. Mount Vum Bongert is therefore first and foremost a celebration of orchards, the harvest, and local products. The region's inhabitants make juices, brandy, and cider, bake pies, or dry them in the sun for an unusual snack.

The Mount Vum Bongert tradition was born in 2020 in Mullerthal Park. The event now offers the opportunity to participate in fruit picking, taste local delicacies at markets or restaurants, make apple juice, and take home delicious and fresh produce.

Where to try a special menu

Some restaurants have prepared a special menu inspired by fruits and orchards. The menu consists of regional fruits and gourmet delicacies. You can taste the delicacies at the restaurants:

Where to learn about fruit preservation techniques and exchange harvests

If you want to enjoy your harvest for months to come, the École du Goût will be holding a workshop on fruit preservation techniques on October 6. If you don't have your own apple tree, the next day, October 7, is the official apple picking day, when you can take home some of your harvest. And on the special Kierfchen platform, you can find someone to buy fruit from or sell it yourself.

Where to harvest and try plum jam

Ramborn also celebrates its harvest on September 30 and October 1. During the annual Harvest Days, there will be a variety of activities for the whole family, including apple picking, as well as cider and fruit juice tastings. The Luusshaff community garden in Schrondweilerwill also hosts traditional harvest activities.

Rosport-Mompach community will also be hosting cider festivals on September 29 and 30 in Rosport, October 7 in Steinheim, and October 21 in Osweiler. From October 7 to 8 you can taste and buy homemade plum jam (quetsche) in Larochette.

The full program is available on the event's official website.

Luxembourg is very fond of local fruits and vegetables and loves to make premium products from them. Take craft beer, for example! In the Grand Duchy, you can find the most unusual varieties and types of this drink.
