Luxembourg's neighbours became the largest importers of coffee
In 2023, the EU imported 2.7 million tonnes of coffee from outside the EU, worth 10.6 billion euros. The rates of supply remained almost the same as in 2013 (when it was 2.7 million tonnes), but the value increased significantly from 7.3 billion euros in 2013 to 10.6 billion euros in 2023. Brazil (34%) and Vietnam (24%) were the main coffee suppliers, followed by Uganda (8%), Honduras (6%) and other countries.
A third of all coffee imports came from Germany (33% of the total), followed by Italy (23%), Belgium (10%), Spain (9%) and France (7%).
In terms of production, more than 2.3 million tonnes of roasted and decaffeinated coffee were produced in the EU in 2023, an increase of 15% compared to 2013. The production leaders were Italy (25%) and Germany (22%).
