The Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg (OPL) has announced the appointment of a new music director: Martin Raina, a 29-year-old Hungarian conductor, will take over from 26 September 2025. His contract will run for four years, opening up the musician to long-term collaborations and new projects.

Born in 1995 in Hungary, Raina's rise to the top of the musical Olympus has been meteoric:

  • Since 2021, he has been chief conductor of the Győr Philharmonic.
  • Since 2023, he has also directed the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest.

This season the young maestro is conquering international stages, including performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and at the legendary La Fenice Theatre in Venice.

Raina's appointment marks the arrival of a new generation of conductors on the world stage of classical music. His international experience and modern approach to interpreting works promises to make the OPL repertoire particularly dynamic and relevant. Music lovers in Luxembourg can look forward to new projects and creative experiments that will help strengthen the orchestra's position on the international stage.

The Philharmonic hopes that the young maestro will be able not only to maintain a high level of performance, but also to attract a wider audience by creating unique concert programmes and inviting world stars of the classical stage.
