Cold weather is coming to Luxembourg
This morning brought a sharp cold snap, with the MeteoLux meteorological service warning of temperatures dropping to -10 °C between 4:00 and 8:00 am. The reason for such a sharp drop in temperatures is the arrival of a powerful anticyclone that formed in the region of southern Germany. This atmospheric phenomenon brought masses of cold air, enveloping the region in an ice cover.
In the southern part of the country this afternoon, temperatures will range from -5 °C to -1 °C, while in the north thermometers will remain between -5 °C and 0 °C. The morning promises to be particularly cold, despite sparse clouds in the sky allowing the sun to cut through the frosty air.
If today seems cold, Wednesday night promises to be a real challenge. Forecasters predict a continuation of the frosty weather with even sharper cooling. The first morning hours of Wednesday will begin with some brightening: we can expect glimpses of sunshine. However, closer to midday, cloudiness will begin to increase. Despite this, precipitation is not expected - the anticyclone holds a stable dry front.
This combination of sharp cold and clear skies is characteristic of anticyclones in winter: the absence of wind and minimal clouds favours a sharp drop in temperature at night. Such climatic scenarios are a reminder of the severity of winter in the region and require extra caution, especially when travelling in the morning.
