According to the Luxembourg Ministry of Health, the 42nd week of 2025 (13-19 October) has seen a decrease in the incidence of the three main respiratory infections: COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). However, viral activity remains under surveillance.
During the week, 242 cases of COVID-19 infection were detected, down 17 per cent from 293 cases a week earlier. However, experts note that the viral load in wastewater continues to increase, which may indicate latent circulation of the virus.
Influenza activity in the country has also decreased, from 22 to 17 cases. Of the samples tested, 94 per cent are type A influenza virus and only 6 per cent are type B. So far, we are talking about a low level of virus circulation, but the season is just beginning.
For respiratory syncytial virus, traditionally dangerous for infants and the elderly, 10 new cases were reported, one fewer than a week earlier. This indicates stable but weak circulation of RSV in the community.
The Ministry of Health continues weekly monitoring of the epidemiological situation, stressing the importance of hygiene, vaccination and early diagnosis in the season of autumn-winter infections. The growth of viral load in wastewater is an alarming indicator, even if official statistics are still declining.
