A major rescue operation was launched at Luxembourg Airport on Monday evening. A Ryanair aircraft bound for the Grand Duchy reported problems with its braking system a few minutes before landing. The incident was officially confirmed by the Fire and Rescue Service (CGDIS).

The alarm was raised with air traffic controllers shortly after 10.00 pm. In accordance with safety protocols, CGDIS crews and the airport’s in-house fire service were placed on full alert and took up positions along the runway even before the aircraft touched down.

Despite the technical difficulties encountered during the flight, the landing went smoothly. The aircraft touched down as normal, and none of the passengers or crew members were injured.

Immediately after the aircraft came to a halt, the emergency services began inspecting the landing gear components. Specialists measured the temperature of the brake discs to rule out the risk of fire. To prevent the system from overheating and to ensure the safety of the subsequent towing of the aircraft, specialised ventilation equipment was deployed to force-cool the brakes. Once all checks had been completed, the aircraft was deemed safe to be moved to the terminal.
