Historic agreement signed for opticians in Luxembourg

Luxembourg's optical sector has made a breakthrough: on 2 October 2025, the first collective labour convention was signed at GrandVision Luxembourg, which combines the GrandOptical and Générale d'Optique brands. The document comes into force on 1 January 2026 and will be in force for three years, until the end of 2028.
The agreement is based on the efforts of the OGBL Commerce trade union, the only employee representative in the company, as well as constructive dialogue with management. The main outcome is to improve social security and set a precedent: even small sectors, such as optics, deserve reliable labour guarantees.
What does the new agreement include?
- Guaranteed 13th salary - it's now official in the convention.
- Variable bonuses linked to shop turnover.
- Subsidies on the purchase of glasses, as well as discounts of up to 50% on the Family & Friends programme.
- Meals: cheques for 9 euros for each day worked, with the promise of revised conditions in 2027.
- Additional leave.
- Emergency leave.
- Social leave: 4 hours per year to participate in social initiatives.
- An incentive fund tied to individual employee evaluations.
- A progressive mechanism for pre-retirement care.
- Flexible schedule for union reps with monthly scheduling.
Although the document directly concerns "only" 84 employees, its significance goes beyond a single company. It has become a model of social progress in a niche but important sector where, until then, no generalised contractual norms existed.
OGBL Commerce and the delegation of GrandVision Luxembourg employees emphasise that this step is the result of a collective determination to make human labour in the optical sector dignified, protected and respected.
