On 16 January 2025, ADEM (Employment Development Agency) and Digital Learning Hub held the first joint Jobday dedicated to the IT industry. The event was attended by 32 companies from sectors such as IT, finance, industry, commerce and technology. Guests included students from 42 Luxembourg, 900 registered unemployed people and other professionals looking for career opportunities in IT.

Companies were looking for candidates for positions such as web developer, data analyst, network administrator, full-stack developer, IT support expert and IT architect. In total, more than 1,000 participants were able to talk to potential employers.

Education Minister Claude Meisch stressed the importance of flexible learning adapted to changing labour market conditions. Key initiatives:

  • Introduction of Coding courses in primary schools and Digital Sciences in secondary schools.
  • The work of the Digital Learning Hub, which has delivered 969 training sessions since 2022, attracting 8,612 participants.
  • Programming School 42 Luxembourg, offering free innovative training to prepare highly skilled IT professionals.

Despite significant growth in IT vacancies between 2015 and 2022, the number of open positions started to decline from 2022 onwards:

  • By 26% in 2023 and an estimated 15% in 2024.
  • The decline concerns areas such as software development, IT consulting, architecture and cybersecurity.

Labour Minister Georges Mischo said the trend raises questions, especially given the continuing shortage of specialists. ADEM is working with experts to analyse the situation and develop remedial measures.

According to ADEM director Isabelle Schlesser, one of the agency's key objectives is to harmonise supply and demand on the labour market. In 2024, more than 30 per cent of all participation in ADEM's educational initiatives was related to digital technologies and IT.

The Digital Learning Hub and events such as IT Jobday play an important role in creating opportunities for professional development and adapting to digital challenges.
