Luxembourg unemployment up by 7% in September

On 30 September 2024, 17 733 people were registered as unemployed in Luxembourg, an increase of 7.1% compared to the same period of the previous year. Despite the stable unemployment rate (5.8%), the increase is particularly marked among professionals with higher education and people aged between 30 and 44. The number of unemployed people who have been looking for work for more than four months has also increased.

The largest increases in unemployment are observed in construction, transport, industry, accounting, IT and banking. In addition, the number of new registrations at ADEM has also increased: 3,259 people registered in September 2024, which is 3.7% more than in September 2023.

The number of people receiving full unemployment benefits increased by 16% to 10,168. During the same period, employers submitted 3,110 applications for vacancies, which is the same as last year.
