Luxembourg opens three new international schools

One of Luxembourg's priorities is to expand the network of free international schools. This was underlined by the Education Minister Claude Meisch, during a parliamentary session. Within 3 years, three new campuses will be opened in the south of the country. These are going to be located in Dudelange, Schifflange and Sanem.

The Grand Duchy now has 6 schools of this type: Clervaux, Differdange, Junglinster, Mersch, Mondorf-les-Bains and the capital of the Merl district. They offer education in English, German and French. In Differdange, Portuguese is also taught. At the secondary level, the schools support a multilingual curriculum in the humanities, arts and sciences.

The construction of new international schools is likely to have been the result of a shortage of places in existing schools. In the public education system, children are taught in three languages (French and German are supplemented by Luxembourgish). As a result, they often fall behind in their studies and need extra tuition.

This problem will be solved by the new free institutions. They will offer the choice of the language in which the child wants to learn. As a result, energy and resources will be freed up for the mastery of the curriculum rather than the exhausting language-intensive courses.

How many free international schools the government plans to open in the future has not yet been announced.

The Government of Luxembourg strongly supports the educational system and is always looking to improve it to make it more convenient for both students and their parents. Recently, the Luxembourg Ministry of Education launched eduGuichet. This is a digital platform that makes the administrative process fast, clear and user-friendly.

The eduGuichet displays report cards, certificates, exam results and all other school documents. Parents can use it to create a daily school menu for their child and also see the list of required textbooks for a year.
