Luxembourg to have 4 tram lines by 2035
Right now there is only one tram line in the capital. In addition, only 17 trams out of the existing 33 operate on it. But in 2035 things will be very different.
Luxembourg trams carry 70 000-75 000 passengers a day. With the opening of two new stations on September 11, this figure should rise to 80 000. And when the line from the airport to the big stadium is completed, the transport company Luxtram hopes to reach the mark of 100 000 passengers a day.
Luxtram’s goal by 2035 is to open three new lines and carry 300 000 passengers a day. The company has announced this in the National Mobility Plan.
The plan includes a route through the city park. As we’ve previously written, local environmental activists are protesting against such a decision. However, Andre von der Mark, Luxtram’s general manager, promises that green spaces will not be affected. Moreover, new plants will appear along the tram line.
