Where Luxembourgers flew to this summer

Luxembourg Airport is considered one of the most reliable airports in Europe. Although it is not in the top 10 most reliable hubs, it is not in the top 10 worst airports either. And this is well deserved.

According to official statistics from Findel Airport, the flight delay index is 44. This value ranges from 0 to 100, the lower the better. By the way, the delay only counts from 15 minutes. Yes, this is not the best index, but there are airports that reach the red zone of 80 and above. The average delay is 29 minutes.

When looking at these figures, it is important to remember that Findel is a relatively small airport, but it still manages to handle hundreds of thousands of passengers every year. The total number of take-offs and landings for the 3 months of the summer of 2023 was 21,549, or about 239 flights per day. And with all this activity, the cancellation index is an impressive 2 units.

Luxembourg's airport is also one of the top 3 least stressful airports in Europe. However, in 2022 it had one of the highest numbers of passengers — more than four million. According to the survey, the number of passengers is directly related to the stress level of the airport, but it seems that Findel is managing well enough.

The main destinations for flights remain Porto and Lisbon. These Portuguese cities keep stable indicators almost all year round and confidently occupy the top lines of the statistics. However, Majorca in Spain is becoming increasingly popular in the summer. If in winter the number of passengers is counted in the thousands, in June it is in the tens of thousands. Germany, France, and the UK also remain popular destinations. Luxembourgers also like to travel to Italy, the Netherlands, and Austria by plane.

Luxembourgers love Portugal, but this does not mean that there are no other destinations in Findel. In fact, they are constantly adding to their list. At the end of this year, for example, there will be additional flights to Finland, Italy, Cape Verde, and the Canary Islands. And from mid-September, it will be possible to fly to Ljubljana.
