Georges Mischo prepares to return to parliament

Less than a month after his forced resignation, former Luxembourg Minister of Labour and Sport Georges Mischo has officially announced his return to parliament. His documents have already been submitted, and his return to the benches is scheduled for 20 January, during the next plenary session. According to a source in parliament, the former minister has provided all the necessary information, including a certificate of residence.
This move marks an unexpectedly rapid political comeback for a figure who found himself at the centre of criticism in December for his unsuccessful dialogue with trade unions. Mischo himself, who represented the CSV and was the former head of the list in the Southern constituency in the 2023 elections, said that he "did not hesitate for a moment" in his decision to return: "Politically, I have something to offer," he emphasised in an interview with L'essentiel.
At the same time, he noted that returning to parliament does not mean returning to the issues he previously specialised in. He does not intend to continue working on labour or sports issues: "I am not going to discuss my own projects. I did not appreciate it when others did that to me while I was in government," said Mischo, without specifying who he was referring to, but hinting at political opponents, possibly from among the Socialists.
When asked about possible mistakes in his work in the government, he responded evasively: "I will not comment. All that is behind us now."
The politician also made it clear that he does not plan to return to the local administration of Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg's second-largest city, where he served as mayor from 2017 to 2023. Although he has promised to discuss his future with the local CSV branch and the current mayor, Christian Weis, he does not consider this a priority: "There are no vacancies on the municipal council at the moment, and this is not my primary goal."
