An inclusive waiting lounge has opened at Findel Airport

An official opening ceremony was held at Findel Airport to mark the launch of a new dedicated lounge for passengers with reduced mobility. It was designed with the specific needs of this vulnerable group of travellers in mind, to provide them with comfortable facilities and tailored support prior to departure. The airport’s Managing Director, Alexander Flassak, added that the new facility will be available not only to people with reduced mobility, but also to unaccompanied minors travelling without an adult.

During the event, Yuriko Backes, Minister for Mobility, stated that a modern transport system must be fully inclusive. She said that the introduction of new infrastructure demonstrates the practical implementation of accessibility standards, enabling every traveller to begin their journey with a sense of confidence, autonomy and self-respect. The Minister emphasised in particular that ensuring equal access is not an optional extra, but a fundamental principle of the state’s transport policy.

At the same time, Max Hahn, Minister for Family Affairs, noted that every improvement in accessibility directly contributes to strengthening the independence of the target groups and benefits society as a whole. As part of a consistent drive to raise service standards, the airport has joined the social initiatives Bewosst and Hidden Disabilities Sunflower. These international projects aim to raise awareness of both visible and hidden physical and mental disabilities. In addition to the physical opening of the new lounge, airport staff have undergone specialised training enabling them to recognise the needs of passengers whose health conditions are not visually apparent and to provide them with expert support.
