An unusual rescue took place in the Pfaffenthal district of Luxembourg on Tuesday, with firefighters pulling a woman out of the icy waters of the Alzette River. The signal came in at around 14:10 from an eyewitness who saw the woman being carried hundreds of metres away by a strong current.

The water rescue team of the Corps of Fire and Rescue Engineers (CGDIS) came to the rescue. The woman was pulled from the water near the Pfaffenthal Bridge. After being extracted, she was transported to the hospital where she received the necessary medical attention.

A witness reported that the woman first undressed before getting into the water. Her motives remain a mystery. Police have not yet made any conclusions about her mental state, but have not ruled out the possibility that it may have been a voluntary jump for the sake of swimming. However, the fact that it happened on a cold day raises questions.
