In Luxembourg, preparatory work for the first extension of tram line 1 to the Kirchberg will begin. The new section will run from the Pfaffenthal/Kirchberg transport hub along boulevard Konrad Adenauer to the École européenne. This is an important milestone in the development of the city's infrastructure, which will be an extension of the existing 16-kilometre line connecting the capital and Luxembourg Airport with 24 stations and 10 transport hubs.

The project involves a complete rethinking of the public space with a focus on sustainable mobility. The tram platform will be located in the central part of the boulevard with a double row of trees, which will improve air quality and comfort for residents.

The project will result in a 50 per cent increase in green space, adding 5,000 m² to the existing 10,000 m². The length of the green avenue will be 2.3 kilometres and the number of trees will increase to 400, including 49 replanted trees and 150 new trees. This will be a significant contribution to improving the environmental situation in the neighbourhood.

Between the pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte bridge and the European School, the tramway will be operational by the start of the 2027 school year. Construction work will begin in the week of 17 February 2025, including the pruning and replanting of 92 trees, installation of construction pads, and temporary changes to the road infrastructure.

Luxtram will also re-lay underground utilities (water, gas, electricity) to allow access for repairs and maintenance without having to stop tram traffic.

Special attention will be paid to informing residents and users of public spaces about the progress of works. For this purpose, the Luxtram media team will be involved, which will provide up-to-date information on site on a daily basis. They can be contacted by phone at (+352) 26 20 28 20 or by email at travaux@luxtram.lu.
