Luxembourg events for 18-20 October

The Excellence Hotel Group in Clairvaux, in collaboration with the Luxembourg Cycling Federation (FSCL), is organising a special event on 19 October 2024. The programme includes a 50km bike ride through northern Luxembourg led by former professional cyclist Franck Schleck, tips on bike care and a conference where Franck will talk about his sporting career and life as a professional. Participants will also be treated to an aperitif, a dinner with cold and hot dishes and unlimited drinks. The cost of participation is 99 euros.

RCL Lightning, a section of the Luxembourg Rugby Club, will host the first round of the Belgian Rugby Championship for the 2024/25 season on 20 October 2024 at the Boy Konen Stadium. More than 20 teams and around 300 athletes will take part in the competition. The tournament is divided into two parts: a morning for new teams and an afternoon for elite teams. This is a key event to promote mixed rugby in Luxembourg, where men and women play on equal terms.

Ensemble Vocal du Luxembourg (EVL) will be giving concerts with performances of Brahms's German Requiem: on 19 October 2024 at 20:00 at Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Bettambourg and on 20 October at 17:00 at Saints Peter and Paul in Wiltz. This rarely performed work stands out for its deep reflection on the theme of death and its use of non-liturgical texts. Under the direction of Matthias Rajczyk, EVL will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra featuring soloist Gerlinde Zemann (soprano) and David John Pike (baritone).

The Mierscher Theater will present a concert celebrating the work of American composer Charles Ives on Sunday, 20 October 2024, at 17:00. The concert celebrating the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth will feature baritone Franz Schilling and pianist Claude Krauss. At the centre of the programme is the 114 Songs collection, a samizdat from 1922 that reflects the composer's entire career, including songs about student life, romantic works and politically motivated protest songs.
