National Library of Luxembourg celebrates 225th anniversary

The anniversary of the National Library of Luxembourg will take place on September 30 and October 1, 2023. These days fall on Saturday and Sunday, so many visitors are expected.

The treasures of the country's cultural heritage, as well as parts of the international legacy, will be presented to everyone. Many conferences and workshops will be organized. They will help to understand better how the library works in the XXI century, who are helping to collect books, and much more.

There will also be workshops on making ink and bookbinding. Space is limited for many seminars and workshops, so we strongly recommend that you register in advance for the events you are interested in.

One of the events is the Discovery Tour. It is a chance to explore the National Library and its secrets. You will visit the reading room and storage rooms, meet library experts and learn more details about the literature collection.

In addition to its rich book heritage, the Bibliothèque Nationale du Luxembourg also has a fascinating music archive. You can discover this part of the library in the Media Center. Patrick Steffen of the BnL's Cedom (Centre d'études et de documentation musicales) will guide the tours on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

On Sunday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., complete your musical journey with the performance of DJ Ausgeléint, who is actually Patrick Steffen, the guide of the Media Center. This is the perfect way to get to know the musical heritage of the Bibliothèque nationale du Luxembourg, as the artist will only use CDs and LPs that have been handed down.

In the Media Center of the National Library of Luxembourg, you can also discover numerous multimedia items, documentaries, feature films, audiobooks,s and various interesting tools that can really help you learn a foreign language.
