Luxembourg hosts the annual Gala des Étoiles

On July 8 and 9, the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg will host the Gala des Étoiles, an annual showcase of ballet dancers in the Grand Duchy. This tradition was created 10 years ago. Every year, dancers from all over the world come together on the stage of the Luxembourg Theatre. This year, the programme lasts 3 hours. For the comfort of the audience, it is divided into two parts.

The Gala des Étoiles will be headlined by Lucia Lacarra (Spain) and Matthew Golding (Canada). They are long-standing stage partners, leading dancers in Europe and the founders of GOLDENLAC Productions, a ballet production company. The concert also features artists from Austria, the UK, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Japan, the USA and other countries.

Date: July 8, 8:00 p.m.; July 9, 5:00 p.m.;

Address: Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, Rond-Point Schuman L-2525 Luxembourg;

Tickets: from 44,25 euro.

"I am really excited to perform again in Luxembourg Gala des Étoiles, in this anniversary edition. This is a very dear event for me, I’ve been there a few times. This year I will be performing with my on-stage and off-stage partner Matthew Golding. We will be presenting a piece that is very special to us", — said Lucia Lacarra.

The programme

The evening will be hosted by an illusionist from Paris — Laurent Beretta (who also hosted last year's Gala des Étoiles). He has mysterious tricks and charming jokes in mind for the audience. There will be no time for boredom: like many of his colleagues, Beretta invites the audience to participate in his acts. This way, the guests become an essential part of the performance.

The first part of the Gala des Étoiles concert will be opened by dancers Kateryna Floria and Artem Shoshyn from the 🇱🇺 Luxembourg Ballet. They will perform the duet "Servant of the Muse", to the music of the Italian composer Pietro Mascagni. This number is the work of choreographer Volha Kastsel. I am happy to meet such talented colleagues in Luxembourg. They are people who are sincerely dedicated to their work. They have great creative potential. The ballets 'The Nutcracker, 'Carmen' and 'Don Giovanni' have already been created. I would like the public to see them on the main stages in Luxembourg. It is a real aesthetic pleasure!

Kateryna Floria

The synthesis of choreographic styles from different eras and traditions is one of the main features of the Gala des Étoiles. For example, dancers Anastasia Sinitsyna, Randy Rocha and Semi Semoes will attempt to combine urban hip-hop and "world heritage" to the accompaniment of Tchaikovsky's 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy'.

This year's Gala des Étoiles will feature a world premiere, 'Gegen den Strom'. It is a duet to the music of Mikhail Glinka, performed by Ketevan Papava and Eno Peci (Wiener Staatsballett, Vienna). Their partner, Iryna Tsymbal, will show a dance by legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova, 'Californian Poppy'. It was first performed at the beginning of the 20th century, and now you have the chance to see this jewel of ballet art alive.

The audience will enjoy music from different periods. For example, works by Christoph Willibald Gluck, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Frederic Chopin as well as pieces by contemporary composers — Arvo Part, Max Richter, Philip Glass and many others. All performances are chosen and staged to immerse you in the world of ballet. You will see and understand it from many different perspectives.
