Getting a driver's license in Luxembourg will become more expensive

Getting licensed to drive in Luxembourg is not easy. According to the latest statistics, only about 48% of candidates pass the driving test. The government is considering what to do about this rate, which is one of the lowest in Europe.

Mobility Minister François Bausch believes that one of the main problems is a change in attitudes. Young people no longer learn to drive with their parents. Consequently, all knowledge must be imparted at school.

There are 40 accredited schools in Luxembourg:

It is expected that the amount of compulsory practice may increase as a result of the announced reform of the preparatory courses. This means that the price of training will also increase. At the moment, the average cost of the theoretical training and 16 hours of driving is about 1,600 euros. This is lower than in Germany, Belgium and even France.

François Bausch believes that such a measure will help reduce the number of failures. He also pointed out that state examiners do not specifically fail students.
