Luxembourg internet providers can legally raise their rates. Even if your contract, with previous price stated, is still valid.
Contrary to stereotypes, companies don’t like to increase prices — customers are unhappy every time. But the prices have to rise, because for providers the costs are growing. Components, electricity, salaries are all more pricey now.
Surprisingly, one-sided price increases are completely legal. Even in cases when the client has just signed a year- or even two-year-long contract. It’s enough for the provider to notify the user for a month.
The law protects providers because a customer about to be hit by a price increase has the right to terminate the contract early. However, in practice, few people bother to change providers because of a few euros per month.
