New STATEC research shows a male majority in the country's athletic sector. There are a total of 968 jobs in gyms and sports clubs. Only 18 percent of those jobs involve women.
While 16 percent of the women are coaches, there are a lot more women in administrative positions – 48 percent. Almost 64% of all 77,000 active gym and club members are men.
STATEC also notes that there were approximately 14,500 active volunteers in the athletic field in 2021. However, their employment averages 76 hours per year, so they have little impact on the statistics.
