Luc Frieden responds to a question about data protection in Luxembourg
On 9 January 2025, Prime Minister Luc Frieden submitted an official response to a parliamentary enquiry concerning compliance with the rules on the processing and transfer of personal data under Regulation (EU) 2016/679, known as the General Data Protection Regulation (RGPD).
The RGPD regulates the protection of personal data and its transfer within the European Union. It replaced the old Directive 95/46/CE, setting uniform standards for data processing. Luxembourg, like other EU member states, strictly follows these regulations.
Articles 4-6 of the Regulation describe the key principles of data processing, including data subject consent and transparency of processing. Citizens have the right to lodge a complaint with the national data protection authority, the Commission for National Data Protection (CNPD), if they believe their rights have been violated.
