Since the end of July 2025, one of the key cross-border transport arteries between Germany and Luxembourg - the bridge over the Moselle River in the Perl/Schengen area - has been operating in a restricted mode. This is a consequence of the preliminary results of a routine technical inspection carried out by the Federal Autobahn Management Company (Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes) in June. The engineers identified structural deficiencies that require load reduction on the bridge and more in-depth diagnostics.
On the night of Thursday 11 September to Friday 12 September 2025, the bridge will be completely closed in the direction of Luxembourg. The restriction will start at 22:00 and last until 02:00 at night. During this short but critical period, specialists will carry out further investigations to plan sustainable repair measures.
During this time all traffic heading to Luxembourg will be diverted to an alternative route. The diversion will take place at the Perl junction with the A8 and the route will continue via:
- B419 and B406,
- the boundary bridge at Remich,
- motorway E29 and routes N2, N13, N16,
- and then back on the A13/E29 from the Altwies junction (No 11) towards Luxembourg.
The Rastplatz Perl-Besch seating area on the side leading to Luxembourg will also be closed - from 15:00 Wednesday 10 September until 02:00 Friday 12 September.
Traffic from Luxembourg to Germany on the same motorways A13 and A8 will not be restricted. This is important for those using the bridge in the morning hours or planning international transport.
